The History of Internet Marketing – Learn More About It

The early existence of internet marking started in the early 1990’s when text-based and simple websites were predominantly used in offering product or service information around the world. The Bristol-Myers Squibb was the first company that officially launched an online marketing campaign. A US-based drug company, the Bristol-Myers Squibb launched the use of online marketing to basically develop the public awareness in using a certain drug called “Excedrin”. During the tax season in 1997, law and marketing firms declared the Excedrin as a “Tax Headache” supplement from online advertising websites. Bristol-Myers provided an online free sample of the drug to American internet users.

According to Linda Himelstein of Business Week, the use of the World Wide Web in promoting Excedrin resulted to series of good responses coming from Bristol-Myers. Himelstein also wrote in her article that in just one or two days, the Brtistol-Myers already estimated 30,000 added names in their online customer list. Standardized technology industries such as Microsoft and IBM began to incorporate their internet providers and several software programs in the Bristol-Myer’s existing marketing campaigns. Both industries also began throwing away millions of dollars from online marketing efforts to give way for the Bristol-Myer’s campaign. Several websites such as Yahoo is said to be one of the online-based firms that was able to quickly acquire high amount of profit from marketing. Yahoo successfully targeted the “never before seen” type of messages from the online marketing industry. The highly trafficked website generated the monitoring of hits every online advertisement acquires per day. In 2000, many online marketing firms were forced by Yahoo to tighten their online advertising revenue. During the same year, Yahoo reported that the firms’ customer bases dwindled during the “Cooling Stage” of the US economy.

The expenses used for internet marketing in the US, Canada and other neighboring countries totaled to 300 Billion Dollars in 1996. In 1994, the average online marketing figure totaled to 175 Billion Dollars which were all spent for traditional advertising campaigns in one year. The industry began to rise when the number of internet users and home based businessmen or entrepreneurs continued to increase in America during the mid-1990’s. In the year 1997, the online advertising industry’s budget increased to $1 billion. Online marketing expertise and advertisement writer Bill McRea wrote in his article that one of the most popular online marketing firms in America and some European countries today is the “Houston Online Marketing”. According to McRea, the Houston online marketing has several advantages that comprises well with affiliated online marketing firms in the US including several western and European countries as well. The benefits provided by McRea include the following:

• Online consumers can easily log onto the website and get to know the overall features of the product or service any time of the day.

• These companies could save more money due to the website’s necessity in reducing sales force rates and online advertising expenses.

Becoming a Successful Internet Marketing Company Affiliate

Participating in affiliate programs as an internet marketing

company affiliate is a viable way to make money on the internet

without having your own products and services for sale. In

essence, as an internet marketing company affiliate, you market

other companies’ products and services for a fee.

Generally affiliate programs are either one-tier or two-tier

programs which means if you participate in a one-tier program,

you get paid for referrals that you send to the company for which

you are an internet marketing company affiliate. If you

participate in a two-tier program, you also get paid for

referring other affiliates to the program.

In most affiliate programs, an internet marketing company

affiliate gets paid either a percentage of sales that result from

their referrals, or a flat fee per lead or click-through that

result from their internet marketing efforts.

The defective line of thinking that leads an internet marketing

company affiliate to failure and disappointment is the thought

that being an internet marketing company affiliate is an easy,

get-rich-quick business opportunity. Unsuccessful internet

marketing company affiliates are those who don’t realize that in

order to make money with affiliate programs you have to actively

market them.

The error that is common to a new internet marketing company

affiliate is that they launch a website to display links, or even

pages, for the purpose of promoting various affiliate programs

for which they are an internet marketing company affiliate for,

but they don’t actively market their website or their affiliate

products. As a result, their website doesn’t generate any revenue

or generates very little revenue.

To be a successful internet marketing company affiliate you

absolutely have to market your affiliate products and services.

You can actually make loads of money as an internet marketing

company affiliate, but affiliate marketing is not a get-rich-

quick scheme. It is a business opportunity that must be taken

seriously and it does require work, some internet marketing

knowledge, and some funding for launching an aggressive internet

marketing campaign.

Because you don’t have to put out money for product development

or inventory, starting an internet business as an internet

marketing company affiliate may not require as much of an

investment as other types of internet businesses, but assuming

that it is a zero-investment venture is flawed thinking.

For most programs, as an internet marketing company affiliate you

have to have a website through which you market your affiliate

programs because some affiliate programs view your website as

part of their approval process and some only allow you to use

affiliate links to them on a website. In addition to the

investment involved with website development an internet

marketing company affiliate also needs funding for internet

marketing of the affiliate programs.

Common internet marketing methods used by an internet marketing

company affiliate to promote affiliate programs include search

engine marketing, email marketing, linking campaigns,

distribution of expert articles, viral marketing, and

participation in online newsgroups and forums.

Purchasing advertising through pay-per-click search engines,

ezines, directories and so forth is also a method of internet

marketing that is conducive to promoting affiliate products and

services as an internet marketing company affiliate.

One thing is for certain. In order to make serious money as an

internet marketing company affiliate, you simply have to market

the products and services of your affiliate programs.

Some website operators join affiliate programs and become an

internet marketing company affiliates for the purpose of

supplementing their income a little while providing their website

visitors with easy access to products and services that may be

beneficial to them. For them, actively marketing affiliate

programs may not be a necessity because the affiliate programs

are not their primary source of income.

However, if you desire to be an internet marketing company

affiliate who generates revenue solely from affiliate programs,

you must be an active internet marketer.

The Reasons Why People Fail At Internet Marketing

People continually fail at internet marketing because they all fall into the same traps. This article will hopefully help you to avoid these traps and set you on course to a successful online business in internet marketing.

Firstly, they do not have a basic grounding in the subject. You cannot throw yourself into it without some idea of the basics as you will just get swallowed up, so it is important to know the ground rules and how to build your profile online. Read as much as you can on the subject, find the people online that are recognised experts and start to follow their methods and strategies, and copy what they are doing.

Secondly, they fail at internet marketing because they just think they can sell someone elses product as an affiliate and money will start flooding in. This is not going to happen as there is so much fierce competition out there for all the good affiliate products that the chance of getting much traffic to your affiliate site is minimal even if you work day and night at it. Many people in the industry will tell you that affiliate marketing is the easiest way to make money online. but this is unfortunately not true and the only reason they are telling you this is that they are trying to sell you their latest product on traffic generation or they are defending their own spot at the top of the internet marketing tree.

Thirdly, they think it will be all too easy to become a highly successful internet marketer. The truth is that you have to put the initial work in to become successful in this business, pretty much like any other business in fact, and the people who do succeed are the people who are willing to put in the hard yards and build their business up from ground level.

Fourthly, they get took in by the many internet scams that are out there and become disillusioned. This is very sad and these people should be ashamed of themselves at selling shoddy products to unsuspecting newbies. A good rule of thumb is to think that if it sounds too good to be true it probably is!! Always keep your eyes and ears open and beware any get rich quick schemes.

But there is a way forward to become a successful internet marketer, and it is within anyone’s capability to succeed if they follow the basics and build a long term business that is both ethical and gives people value for money. The key is in creating a simple but helpful product, such as an ebook, in a niche that you have an interest in, and from there building a list by giving your eBook away in return for peoples email address. From there you start to give them valuable information along with selling them good products and services and upselling as you go along.

This is obviously a very brief breakdown of what you need to do but if you follow such a plan you will surely be one of the minority that succeeds online.

Internet Marketing Agencies – How to Choose the Best Online Internet Marketing Agency

Internet marketing agencies are doing great work to reduce the trouble that companies have to go through to market their products and services online. Life has definitely been made easier for them by navigating the unknown world of digital marketing and making it a piece of cake for even the most technology challenged of managers. But how do you go about choosing the right agency for your business. Here are a few tips and tricks. The internet is in fact one of the cheaper forms of digital advertising that is available today. Your marketing needs will be based on the size of your company. A good agency should be able to offer its services in a productive manner no matter what the size of your business is.

Area of Expertise

Almost all agencies have a certain area of expertise. A particular kind of digital or more specifically, internet marketing method that they are good in, for example email marketing services are offered by all agencies but there will be a few companies that are really good at it. Determine which area you want your marketing exercise to be concentrated in. Choose a company that offers or specializes in this form of marketing. A search on the internet will get you the information you want or ask your friends about the internet marketing agencies that they know of or use for their marketing needs.

Experience

Experience is very important for an agency to succeed. The contacts that they have built over these years cannot be replaced or achieved by a wannabe marketing consultant. It is also good to check with the other customers they have had over the years. Check out the success that these businesses had with the help of this agency. Do some in depth analysis and do not go by what they claim. The number of years and the people who are working at the agency also speak volumes about their effectiveness and customer satisfaction levels.

Pricing

Effective marketing does not necessarily mean spending big bucks. The internet is in fact one of the cheaper forms of digital advertising that is available today. Your marketing needs will be based on the size of your company. A good agency should be able to offer its services in a productive manner no matter what the size of your business is. The internet has also made price comparison possible which gives you the advantage of being able to come to a decision after considering the requirements and the options available. Large internet marketing agencies that have a huge volume of business will be able to offer their services at lower rates because of this very reason. Choose a company that offers or specializes in this form of marketing. A search on the internet will get you the information you want or ask your friends about the internet marketing agencies that they know of or use for their marketing needs.

Sylvie Fortin Confronts More Internet Marketing Sins

The final part of Sylvie Fortin's "Internet Marketing Sins" is a two and a half hour slideshow, organized in manageable chunks that retain their flavor even if you need multiple sittings to digest it all. Bringing voice to such an incendiary industry topic brings authenticity to Fortin's rant and shows the audience that she is not hiding behind her words. Fan and foe alike can dissect their meaning and react accordingly.

"You are responsible for your own actions."

Internet Marketing Sins – Part 3 is subdivided as follows to whet your appetite:

  1. Teleseminar Idiots.
  2. Brainless Freebie Seekers.
  3. Coaching Addicts.
  4. Time Sucking Vampires.
  5. Slave Owners.

Fortin doesn't pull any punches when it comes to destructive internet marketing practices. Want to ride the "Expert" interview wave to untold riches? Think again. Sylvie advises us to first build our subscriber lists and use our creativity to stand out in a well-defined niche. Only after building some independent cash flow and establishing your reputation should you consider approaching established marketers.

Seriously, the "gurus" have all the leverage, ie:

Time, content, experience, knowledge, resources … and a list!

Conversely, you have nothing in the beginning. Without anything tangible to offer them, you are at best a potential affiliate with no customers. If you are solely dependent on other people stuff, you lose. Plain and simple.

Sylvie skewers "free" learning; while some generic skills can be developed without great effort, it's only when you invest your time and money in serious skills that serious results occur. To truly learn for free, concentrate on one or two important activities (ie blogs, articles, video marketing, etc.) and take massive action!

Taking from One Hand, Stealing with the Other …

There are many unscrupulous cyberspace "coaches" who will gladly take your money without earning it. At the same time, many coaching students fail to follow a systematic approach after acquiring legitimate course material. So, to improve the value and payback of Internet Marketing coaching, Sylvie advises legitimate mentors to refuse and even refund money to cut out problematic students as soon as possible. On the other hand, buyers should take the initiative to work their courses studiously and diligently.

It's not all Gloom and Doom.

Contrary to what you may think, Fortin agrees that money is a good thing. After all, we need it to satisfy our basic needs and participate in life's various pleasures. However, she advises that making a buck should not compromise basic human values and customer relationships. Decision-making that improves the bottom line is part of business life, but the trick is to make sound, ethical choices. Acknowledge those who help you get to where you want to go, and be good.

Sylvie Fortin is optimistic about building and growing your online business in the midst of the current worldwide recession. Why? Personal experience – Sylvie's business actually increased during the last recession; conversion rates went up, and refund rates decreased.

Conclusion.

Beware of pesky customers who waste your time by moving away from product-related queries. Purchases and follow-up support do not entitle them to free coaching. Use effective outsourcing to delegate non-core tasks, and pay fair prices to retain good contractors. These are just some of the essential nuggets offered by Sylvie Fortin. While "Internet Marketing Sins" continues to raise the ire of some, most serious online entrepreneurs would be wise to heed its advice moving forward.
