Join me here daily as I try to unravel the secrets of Internet Marketing.

Every day I import new articles from all over the internet in the 6 different categories of Marketing on the Internet. These are the best Articles I can find in each of these areas and I hope to learn a lot from them and talk about what I learn in the area I call “Mikes Thoughts”.

I also have a ClickBank Store on this site, I don’t vouch for any of these products since in the “Old Days” of Internet Marketing almost everything you could buy there was a waste of money. I think a lot has changed since 2000 and I buy things from ClickBank now that they have a long “No Questions asked, 100% Money Back Guarantee” and accept PayPal so I don’t have to trust them.

Anyway, I hope you become a regular reader of my site, but if not, we will both probably survive!

Why Being a Perfectionist Will Kill Your Productivity

If you tend to set high bars for yourself and always try to put your best foot forward to achieve your goals, your perfectionism could be killing your productivity. While striving for perfection can help you achieve great results, it can also prevent you from being your best and can foster a lack of productivity. Here are several ways the being a perfectionist will quickly kill your productivity.

Perfectionism Makes You Less Efficient

When you strive for perfection in the tasks that you do, even when you’ve completed the task, you will linger on to find new ways that you can improve. This lingering process might start off as a quick ten-minute process but can quickly escalate until you find yourself spending an hour or more looking for things to improve. This causes you to spend way too much time on a task that required and puts you behind schedule.

You Become Less Effective

As a perfectionist, you probably do little things because they seem like a good addition. However, you fail to consciously think whether those additions are necessary. Sometimes, those additions not only fail to add value but might even ruin things.

You Tend to Procrastinate

When you have perfectionist tendencies, you often wait for the perfect moment, which tends to overcomplicate a project. What is a simple task, might get blown out of proportion, to the extent that it then becomes intimidating subconsciously. This causes you to procrastinate on working on it because you are waiting for the ever “perfect” moment before you begin. Unfortunately, this perfect moment never happens until it’s too late.

You Miss the Bigger Picture

Since you are too hung up on the little details, you tend to forget about the bigger picture and the end goal. It isn’t uncommon to see better jobs in pruning the trees than the growth of the forest.

You Fuss Over Unfounded Problems

Most perfectionists tend to anticipate problems before then crop up and develop solutions to address the issues. It ends up becoming an obsession to pre-empt potential problems. Unfortunately, most of the problems that you envision never surface or they donÕt really matter as much as you thought they would.

While striving to aim for higher standards isn’t a bad thing, when the quest for perfection turns into an obsession, it will quickly kill your productivity. The answer isn”t to stop striving for perfection, but rather to be conscious of your perfectionist tendencies and manage them accordingly.

Choosing an Internet Marketing Firm Online

In order to have a successful online business, internet marketing will be key. Not only will this help you to bring in a good income, it will also be what determines your overall website traffic. When choosing an Internet marketing firm, you will need to find one that provides the services you are looking for. Search engine optimization is the top one that must be included though as this is essential for successful online marketing. Here is where you develop a brand image that others will associate with your company.

A firm who handles this type of work should start by developing a marketing plan which lays out how you will achieve the goals you have jointly established. A number of tasks will be needed to get from start to finish and each should be thoroughly developed before the site is up and running. Services you may wish to consider when choosing your Internet marketing firm include link-building, document creation and social marketing media. The more of these you have, the more sales you will have. Not all are offered by all web designers.

With the right Internet marketing firm, you will increase your web presence. The more targeted traffic you receive from the search engines, the more profit you will bring in. One should never discount search engine optimization and the importance of it when it comes to bringing in more traffic. The lower you are in the search engines, the less exposure your website will have and therefore the less visitors you will receive. Search engine optimization increases your ranking.

The best way to determine which Internet marketing firm to sign with is to look at samples of their past work. Although this is no guarantee that your website will produce the same results, it is a good indicator of what the company is capable of doing as well as what your website will look like. Walk through the process with your consultant to ensure he will listen to your ideas while injecting some of his own. The best websites are the result of a partnership between you and your consultant so make sure you can work together easily. Otherwise, your money will just be wasted.

The One Internet Marketing Tip You Must Know To Avoid Business Failure

I just had a nice and quiet winter weekend here in Canada, working on my Internet Independence presentation for a seminar I’m going to be doing down in Panama. Kind of nice to be locked away and making some progress on big projects.

But last weekend I was out and about down at Disney World in Florida with a lot of info marketers. So there was a lot more networking and high level mastermind going on.

And while I was talking to one of my best buddies, he brought up a question he gets almost every day.

People are always asking him, “What’s your #1 Internet Marketing Tip?”

We laughed of course, because internet marketing is not so simple that you could summarize it with a “#1 tip”.

But over the last 7 days I’ve been thinking about that constantly.

What would I say if I absolutely had to give someone just ONE tip.

What would it be?

Well, here’s what I came up with…and I’m going to give you two answers that are almost the same.

The first one really addresses my #1 tip for all of business, and that is:

You MUST be unique.

It’s that simple. You could expand on that and say, “You must have a unique selling proposition”, but I wanted to keep it extremely simple.

You can’t be like everyone else. You must be remarkable.

It doesn’t matter if your product works. Listen, I’ve reviewed hundreds of products from business coaching clients, and I think I’ve only told 3 people that their product sucks (although I don’t think I used that exact phrase, but you know what I mean).

It’s very rarely the content that is holding back your business, but it’s almost always the fact that your business is just like everyone else, and therefore you don’t stand out in the market.

Seth Godin’s last book, “Linchpin” (which I think is also his BEST book), covers the need to be unique as well as anything I’ve read. Add that to your reading list.

Now applying that “unique” tip to my #1 internet marketing tip, I’d say that you need to have either:

a) A unique product

b) A unique way of selling your product or other people’s products

For your product, you need a unique marketing angle that makes it different from everything on the market…

OR

You need to have a unique personality that attracts people to your product (i.e. YOU are different from everyone else, although your product may be “the same” as everyone else).

OR

You need to have a unique system for generating traffic to your website.

OR

You need a unique sales process that results in higher conversions and increased upsells compared to everyone else.

Bottom line:

My #1 business/marketing tip is that you have to be different.

But here’s the good news…

You don’t have to re-invent the wheel.

But you do need to have enough of a difference that allows you to stand out and show that you are not the same as everyone else.

Like almost everything I’ve taught you so far, this is going to take some creative work on your part.

So set aside some time and create ways to be different, or simply focus on highlighting the ways you are different.

Make Money With Affiliate Marketing Through Google Traffic

The least mentioned “Secret” of Affiliate Marketing Success is you, because no one else determines your level of Accomplishment. Making Money online may prove a little more challenging than is often suggested with some Affiliate Marketing Programs, leading to misdirection resulting in failure as a result of the wrong Mind Set. Another so called “Secret” is Search Engine Optimization or SEO, which usually send shivers down the spine of many a newbie and with good reason. But Getting Google Traffic through SEO and Keyword Placement is the undisputed champion of High Quality Traffic, and it’s as simple as telling Google what your Blog is about.

The Basic Most Important part of SEO – Search Engine optimization and Blogging is nothing more than a series of Objective Steps toward a Primary Goal, driving Google Traffic to your Site or Video. With Video Ranking for instance, you simply include the Search Phrase you wish to Rank for (The Audience You’re Targeting) at least twice within the first 160 Characters of the Video, Blog or Blog Post Description.

The most important part of getting recognized by Google, be it Video or your Blog comes down to Heading and Description. The first 160 Characters of any Description, Blog Post Body and even Meta Description determines the direction your work will take. Focusing on H1, H2, H3, and H4 Headers with regard to Titles and Headings you want to always keep within 15 – 65 Characters, also counting spaces. The same goes for Image Title or Alt Attribute.

Identifying the H1 Heading – May sometimes also be a Post or Blog Page Title but this usually refer to the Blog, Site or Video Title. The H1 Heading is where you include the Primary Search Phrases you wish your Site or Video to Rank for in Google within 15 – 65 Characters. It is important to preferably keep the H1 Heading within 60 Characters, because the H1 Heading will appear at the top in Google Search Result pages. Make the H1 Heading both Easy to Read and to Remember.

Identifying the H2 Heading – This is usually the Blog Post Title and once again the desired Search Phrases and Keywords need to populate this Heading. Numbers play a huge role with H2 Headings, and strangely enough uneven numbers have a more striking effect, combine this with a “Reason Why” kind of suggestion and you have a winner H2 Heading.

Identifying the H3 Header – Post Titles often also make up the H3 Header, along with Widget Descriptions within the Blog Side Bar. When you use the Text Widget to load HTML code, then the “Alt=” Attribute usually appear as an H3 Header.

A Blog post Title also appears as an H3 Header when you use an SEO Plugin like “All in One SEO Tools” and your Blog Post Title appears after the forward slash (/) to the Primary Domain. Using an SEO Plugin will allow you to submit all your individual pages, posts, tags and categories as individual site maps.

Identifying the H4 Header – This can be defined as something like the Tagline to you Blog Title Tag or H1 header. A Logo image is also often accepted as an H4 header within certain Plugins which may display a logo icon.

Add Descriptions to Tags and Categories – When you open your Posts from within the WordPress C-Panel, the drop down menu provide you with the option “Tags” and “Categories“. This is where you add descriptions to the tags and categories, keeping the description within 160 Characters while including keyword search phrases within context.

In fact any Description, Tag Line, Title, Category, Header or single Tag must contain the keywords within context because that’s what Google is looking for. Just a bunch of keywords crammed together in a desperate attempt to Rank faster will just result in the opposite, as sites with better content and keyword placement will Rank above you.

The Site Map Description – Your Blog Site Map is extremely important, and for this you simply install the Plugin “Google XML Site Maps”. This Plugin will share an updated your Blog Site Map to the Google Search Console each time you make changes, but the changes may take a while (Normally 2 – 3 Weeks) to show up in Search Results.

It is however important to manually check for the Site Map Acceptance from inside the Google Search Console, even with the Google Site Maps Plugin Activated. There may be times when certain errors occur with your Blog Site Map inside Google, which means Google cannot find your Blog.

You have to then test the site map with the tools provided from within the Google Search Console, fix the errors found from inside your Blog C-Panel and test the Site Map again. When the results return with Zero errors found, you simply delete the old site map and upload the new site map.

Accessing the Google Search Console you will need a Google account, as with all the Free Tools Google gives you and it’s a Lot. You simply need to look in the right places and then take your time getting to know how to use the tools. Simple Search your Browser (Preferably Chrome) for the search phrase “Google Search Console” and simply follow the instructions after opening the link on the search result page.

The Blog Site Map is what Search Engine Spiders use to Crawl your Blog so it can be categorized correctly, sending the right visitors your way. This is why the presence of Keywords and Search Phrases are so important throughout all content on your Blog, just the right ones in the right positions.

It’s all about Direction and Precision with Search Engine Optimization because it’s a Numbers Game, but nothing on Earth equals the Volume of Quality Traffic from Search Engines. Google alone processes over 40,000 Search queries every Second and over 3.5 Billion per Day. Adding all other Major Search Engines like Bing and Yahoo just increases that exponentially.

If you still need to start your own Blog, then you will need the required Training for guidance on how to leverage these tactics to your advantage. This is Search Engine Optimization, using keywords and Plugins to drive Interested Visitors to your Blog.

Why Christians Fail at Internet Marketing

A Christian begins to think about marketing online, and wants to market to the Christian Internet Market. After some extensive research, he or she finds that the Christian Internet market is saturated with multilevel, get-rich-quick, gifting, Ponzi schemes, and surf programs. The Christian either chooses to become involved in one of the above-mentioned schemes, thinking that is what Christians are looking for, or decides that Christians aren’t willing to pay for good content or services online.

Unfortunately, the Christian is wrong on both accounts. Christians are willing to pay for good content and services online, but sadly enough, there are very few good Christian services online. Why? Because marketers, both Christian and Secular alike, have assumed that Christians will not pay for online products, because they are unwilling to spend money online. That is the problem. While many Christians, in the early years of the Internet, may have been reluctant to spend money online, with the advent of better Internet filters and screening software, more Christians are spending time online. I contend that the only reason they don’t spend more money online is because of the dearth of good Christian content online. I believe there is a conspicuous absence of good Christian content online, and I believe that those who step up in 2006 and supply the content will get rich doing it.

That may be a bold statement, and some of you will quit reading right now. Go ahead.

Those of you who are still reading, think about this for a moment. When is the best time to get involved in a new window of opportunity? When it first becomes a new window of opportunity, right? I contend that this year, 2006, will be a break-out year for Christian online marketing and sales.

Now, get me right here. I do NOT mean more Ponzi schemes and multi-level games. I mean good, Christian, grounded, chockful-of-useful-information web-based content. Content like information materials that teach about popular Christian topics like Christian self-improvement, Christian dating, Christian success, and Christian values. Products like Christian books, Christian videos, Christian web-sites, Christian marketing tools, and Christian studies.

Another vital point here. These products must be two things:

1) Bona-fide faith-based products that are not ashamed of the Christian identity and

2) High-quality products that contain as much or more good content as a competing secular product. You cannot think that just because a Christian sees a product with a Christian label that that will close the sale. It must be worth every penny you price it at.

If you want to get involved in Christian Internet Marketing, now is the time. Do it.
